Inclusion is at the heart of TAFE. Together we work to cultivate spaces where employees and students are empowered to thrive in their place of work and study.
Demonstrating our commitment to this and to furthering our knowledge and awareness of the LGBTQ+ community the Victorian TAFE Association (VTA), in collaboration with Pride in Diversity, will be hosting a one-hour LGBTQ+ Awareness Training session for TAFE Staff recognising International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
IDAHOBIT occurs annually on 17 May, on the same date that homosexuality was removed from the WHO Classification of Diseases in 1990. Over three decades later, LGBTQIA+ communities still face discrimination – but every one of us can make a difference.
TAFE staff will gain an overall understanding of why LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion is important to an organisation and to TAFE in particular, explore challenges often faced by LGBTQ+ employees and students, and have an increased awareness of the impact that a culture has on the lived experience of its employees.
